Let’s get Patchworking
We will guide you every step of the way!

block-printing-patchwork

Patchwork, as its name implies is the craft of sewing together pieces of fabric to make one larger design. The options for patchwork are pretty much endless as you can use pieces of fabric any size to make your larger design. For beginners, it is easiest if you start with all your pieces the same size and ideally in a shape that can simply be put together with no gaps and spaces. However, for the more adventurous of you, we can help you with all different shapes and sizes and have videos showing you how to make place mats, art journals and much much more.

You can take a look at our videos here

Patchwork Video

If you really take a liking to patchwork, then why not try strip patchwork, log cabin, crazy patchwork or folded circle patchwork. The designs and styles are endless!

Inspired Printing Patchwork

This Colouricious DVD “Inspired Printing & Patchwork” is aimed at beginner level patchwork – this dvd is presented by textile artist Mary Gamester, teaching the Patchwork and myself, teaching the block printing combined with colour theory. If you know how to patchwork, this is a wonderful teaching tool for the youngster in your family – as you could teach them over the summer how to get started on patchwork and printing your own fabric, which would them be special moments together. Mary will be at the Festival of Quilts too, so please do go and visit here too as she has some wonderful ideas to show you about Transfer Paints.

Lets make your own Jewellery

Make your own Jewellery
You can make some lovely elegant pieces

jewellery

Making your own jewellery is not always the first idea you would have when you think about the different projects you have made in the past, but we at Colouricious are always looking to give you new ideas of things to make so we thought we would throw this one into the pot. These necklaces and bracelets are made from Angelina fibres. The fibre has a supersoft handle, much like cashmere, but has been produced in such a way that even just a little added to a fibre mix will result in a sparkling effect. Angelina Fibres can be spun, woven, layered, trapped, bonded, etc. Its applications in textile art, embroidery, papermaking, papier maché, modelling, card and candle-making are endless.

You can watch the video here.

Jewellery Video

If you are a die-hard block printer and want to use your favourite blocks to make some jewellery then never fear we have the answer with another video on the same page which shows Sue using some block printed paper to make some gorgeous beads that can threaded onto cord or elastic to make some beautiful necklaces and bracelets.

Give it a try, I am sure you will be able to make something spectacular!

Fabric Paints
Brighten up your craft projects with our gorgeous colours

scrumptious-fabric-paint-painting-300x300

These Colouricious Fabric Paints are our favourite textile paints. The colours are strong and vibrant and easy to apply. They come in a soft squeeze bottle so nothing gets wasted in the bottom. The paint squeezes easily out of the nozzle and has a very long shelf life. What we also love is that this fabric paint is easy to fix – simply iron the fabric as hot as the fabric will bear and then your fabric can be washed up to 40 degrees and your design will stay permanent. A little tip if you have a tumble dryer – you can put your fabric into the tumble dryer for five minutes and that will also set your paint to permanent. This professional grade Colouricious fabric paint is water based – that means that when it is dry, it does not sit on top of the fabric, making it stiff and crispy. The paint soaks around the fibres and keeps them soft so the handle of the fabric is not compromised at all.
When your fabric paint bottles are empty use them to dye your own fabric. Simply top up the empty bottle with water, give it a shake and then splash it over some fabric to dye it. Simply leave to dry and heat set with an iron.

We have added loads of new colours in lots of different sizes as well, so take a look at our website to find your favourite. I am sure there will more than one colour that catches your eye!

Needle-and-Thread-Set-300x300

You know by now that we are always adding to our Latest Arrivals page, but I just wanted to show you a very cute set we have just got in which I think is beautiful and would make a lovely design on a gift for a fellow stitcher. The sewing machine is incredibly detailed and complements the very skilfully carved scissors and thread. Sometime when I receive the blocks from my team in India, I can hardly believe that they are hand carved. If you like this set, then it is called “Little Sew and Sew” and you can purchase it here.

Indian Textiles Beckons!
Spend some wonderful time with us in India

luxury-holiday-India-colouricious-creative-holidays

We have some wonderful trips organised to India later this year and we would for you to join us. Our holidays and tours are always very popular and the people who join us come away with some amazing friendships and memories that will last a life time.

The beauty of these trips is that they are with like minded people who are all passionate about crafting and everything day is designed to ensure you get to see lots of different textile techniques and ideas, all undertaken by villagers and people who have been taught by their mothers and family friends through the ages. A number of these arts and crafts are ancient skills that are only continued by certain tribes and villages and as such, you will only get a chance to see this if you come along with us.

Come with us – we have places! We are going to tour Rajasthan in November and on this tour amongst many trips organised for the 14 days, we will be seeing villagers practising the craft of Bandani Tie & Dye. This type of Tie & Dye originated in SE Asia and spread across India to cover large parts of Rajasthan. The craft is extremely historical and each design carries messages based upon the style and colours that are used. You can watch a video here relating to Bandani Tie & Dye.

Bandani Tie Dye Video

If this has whetted your appetite for a trip to Rajasthan, then please come over to our website and you can read more about this years schedule and reserve your place, you will not be disappointed!

Join us on a trip of a lifetime

colouricious textile holidays

We have had a bit of a run on holiday bookings this week, so if you are considering joining us on any of our trips later on this year, I would encourage you to reserve your place as soon as you can. Our trips to Jaipur and Rajasthan are particularly spectacular. We have been running these holidays for several years now and have honed them down to ensure that everybody has a great time and enjoys themselves. We have learnt the best places to go and the best times to go there. We know the best craft stalls to visit and how to get the very best deals if you decide you want to purchase something. These trips are really special and the messages we get back from people who have been on the trips in the past just reinforce this.

*************************************

From Heather, Jaipur Trip 2013 “The highlights of the trip for me were the Bagru block printing workshop and the elephant ride – both had me feeling very emotional. Infact, the whole trip did – it exceeded all my hopes and expectations. The organisation was just fantastic and it was so special to be at the true heart of the textile industry in Jaipur. So much colour, vibrancy, inspiration, fun and truly life-enriching experiences. To anyone who goes to Jaipur – don’t miss the Observatory, a wonderful surprise. I even got to drive a tuk-tuk – scary but exhilarating! I will always be grateful to Jamie for making my dream of a textile trip to India come true.”

*******************************************
Dear Jamie and the whole team, just wanted to take a few moments to say thank you the holiday was more than I could have imagined in every way the hotels the transport the visits to cities and villages the range of textiles we saw, and those that we had the opportunity to try our hand at. I was speechless from day one (not true I had a lot to say) the sights the sounds and smells and nor forgetting the company of the group all of whom shared a common interest . Oh dear, it was all amazing and also life changing in so many ways, thank you all for your superb organisation and sharing your love of textiles and India……………….I will be back
Regards
Linda
