Block Printing – Colouricious fabric design workshop

Would you and your textile group like to learn how to block print your own fabric? Jamie Malden MA BEd Hons is a textile tutor and has been teaching for over 30 years. Her passion is block printing and teaching. She is happy to travel any where and everywhere to teach groups how to use the Colouricious Wooden Printing Blocks to design unique fabric. These fabrics are wonderful for a wide selection of sewing projects. Look at the image below to be inspired to see what you can make with fabric that you have designed. All the printing blocks have been hand carved in India – have a look at the fascinating history of block printing

You can book a one, two or three day Colouricious block printing workshop.

Day One is learning all about the basics of block printing using pattern theory, composition and layering. All words that seem complicated but are very easy once you know how!

Day Two – you will learn how to combine the art of stencils and block printing accompanied by skills you learnt on day one of layering.

Day Three – takes you another step forward to learn the art of gelli printing – generally as a back ground, which then you will develop your own block printing style.

If this art form excites you, then all you have to do is contact Jamie Malden at to book your group

Patchwork – A beautiful way to make a quilt

It is cool to be square!

Patchwork is a crafting technique that involves the sewing together of smaller pieces of fabric to make a larger design. It is often used to make quilts with the squares making a lovely pattern.

Our blocks are perfect for making patchwork designs, and if you dye your fabrics beforehand you will be able to create some beautiful unique squares. We have an excellent video showing how you can use our blocks to make a lovely patchwork quilt.

We also have loads of different pictures of patchwork quilts we have made so why not take a look at them and we hope they give you some inspiration.

Be an Early Bird and catch these beauties. If you love birds, this is the block printing set for you! Click here to see some ideas of what you can design.

Recycle and Reuse

Recycle and Reuse
Getting the most out of all your old scrappy fabrics

We generally think of recycling as being a new idea and strategy for crafting, but in fact recycling has been a common practice for most of human history, with recorded advocates as far back as Plato in 400 BC. During periods when resources were scarce, archaeological studies of ancient waste dumps show less household waste (such as ash, broken tools and pottery) implying more waste was being recycled in the absence of new material.

Back to the modern day, Colouricious has loads of ideas on how to recycle your old fabrics and materials to make something new and exciting. Take a look at the Recycling page of our website to see some super videos to give you some ideas.

Recycle Video

If watching the videos has given you a few ideas about how to recycle materials, then you may want to take a look at our Recycled Reborn DVD which is full of ideas of how to get the most out of old items that you would have previously just thrown away.

Automatic Discounts
The very best deals available

We are always trying to set up the very best deals for our Colouricious Club members, so from the start of this month we have introduced some automatic discounts that you will be given if your order reaches a certain value. We have kept the free postage anywhere in the world in place but now there needs to be 4 products in the basket to qualify. However, on top of this, you will get a percentage saving on your order if you spend certain amounts of money. These are fantastic deals and we hope you like them all.

Please note you cannot use any other discount codes with these offers as they will negate the automatic discount you will be entitled to. Basically, you can only have this coding from now on, not mix two !

Come with us to India
Join us on a trip of a lifetime

I love going on our textile holidays to India and Vietnam, but I also enjoy getting home which is when I start to receive the emails and letters from the crafters who joined us telling me how much they enjoyed themselves. They all have their own reason for booking the trip but they always remind me how much they love the sights and sounds and the experiences that got to see and enjoy.

One happy husband – Peter

” Dear Jamie, I should just like to thank you for making Lesleys’ trip to Jaipur so memorable. She was a little nervous before she set off, going that far away from home, but your arrangements and organisation were excellent. I understand that the itinerary was varied and very enjoyable and she just loved the Tuk-Tuk experience when traveling around. Coming home with so much fabric and unique printing stamps etc, took a long time to unpack, with a full explanation of each given to me as it came out of her case! I just know that she will want to repeat the trip someday! With many thanks again “

We have a number of people who have been with us on many different trips, but the majority of the people have taken the plunge and booked to go on their first trip. If you have never been with us before or on any type of textile or crafting holiday then I would encourage you to make the decision and give it a go, I just know you will not be disappointed.

Be creative with your blocks

Be Creative with your blocks
There is no limit to how you can use them!

At Colouricious we are always on the look out for different ways to use wooden printing blocks for crafting. We have shown you in the past how to use them with special friendly plastics and we have now realised that our blocks will be perfect for block printing in clay to make beautifully designed pots and any other clay based projects. Just press the block firmly into the clay making sure it is well supported at the time and you will get the imprint clearly shown in the clay ready for it to be glazed and fired. It is a really simple thing to do, and if you make pots and boxes from clay, a perfect way to decorate them. Yet another fantastic use for our wonderful wooden printing blocks!

Textile Holidays
There are still some places available on trips to Vietnam, Jaipur and Rajasthan

colouricious textile holidays

Our wonderful holidays are filling up fast, but if you are still undecided, we have a few places available on our trips to Vietnam, Jaipur and Rajasthan.

Colouricious Textile Holidays are perfect for you if you just love stitch, embroidery, block printing, quilting and textile art. We specialise in really unique holidays that go off the normal tourist route and onto the off the beaten track. We love to explore rural villages, traditional textile techniques which honour the ethnic culture of each country that we visit. Always looking out for colour, culture, patterns and people, you will discover India presents a feast for the senses. On our textile trips, we really want to find the real event with the real people by taking you places that you did not even know existed. Some of our textile holidays are aimed at those who like a little more comfort – such as in Jaipur, we stay for the whole holiday in one hotel and take little day trips out from that one base. However, some of our textile trips are more intrepid – we have our own coach which travels around a specific area – such as the embroidery holidays – moving onto the next attraction each day. Whatever you love to do and see, you will be delighted at our magnificent little daily adventures together. So if you need a holiday that is for you, featuring visits to what you love, then our Colouricious Textile Holidays are designed for you! Come, enjoy and make new friends too. With a friend, a partner, a family member, or by yourself – we are all together having the time of our lives.
