Unearth the Roots of Indian Block Printing

Unearth the Roots of Indian Block Printing

On this textile holiday, you be will exploring the block printing story – its history and evolution into contemporary Indian hand fabric printing & designs techniques.  This holiday will have a main focus on the block printing and textiles industry.

Our journey together will start at Heathrow airport and we will be travelling to Jaipur in the Rajasthan region of India – the land of colours. It is one of the most beautiful states of India due to the ancient history and art heritage. There are people, patterns and embroidery everywhere! We will be visiting carpenter and block printing workshops, showing off traditional authentic carving and hand block printing factories, embroidery and dyeing villages in remote areas – all embedded in the history of Indian textiles. Busy but wonderful days learning and seeing another world of textiles.

Our group will be staying in the city of Jaipur, the capital of the textile industry of India at the Megh Niwas Hotel. This is a small family run heritage hotel, where the owners particularly pride themselves on their homegrown organic produce, which they use to produce some excellent cuisine. The standards of hygiene and cleanliness are excellent. From here we will be taking textile-themed day trips to numerous locations including an authentic hand block printing fabric workshop, visits to the block printing carpenters, and indigo dying in Bagru. We will also be visiting some historical destinations such as The Monkey Palace, Red Fort Palace and the Pink City Markets.

There will be plenty of fabric retail therapy, with oodles of textiles for you to loose yourself in. We will be visiting shops like Soma and Anokhi which sell the most gorgeous clothes and homeware. If you are looking for something specific, please let us know before and we will do all that we can to source that item or arrange that plan for you.
