1. Will there be time for us to explore the villages where we stay?  E.g., time for shopping and browsing by ourselves.

There will be plenty of time to explore the villages as we go along. Built into the itinerary is free time and shopping time

2. Will there be someone to meet us at the airport, and where would we stay in New Delhi?  Could we arrive a couple of days before the tour begins and could we stay in the proposed hotel for those days before the tour?  I had a difficult time with the heat in 2013 so a couple of days to acclimate would save me losing those days on the tour itself.

There will be a Colouricious tour guide to meet you in Delhi, at the airport and transfer the group to the hotel. If you are travelling independently, you can decide when you want to arrive in Delhi and we will tell you which hotel and what time to meet the group.

3. How much time travelling on the road (it’s very bumpy as we know and can be very uncomfortable), and can you make accommodations for two travellers who get travel sickness, i.e., would we be able to sit near or at the front of the bus?

It is hard to say how many hours there are travelling each day but we do plan the time so that there are regular breaks. You can sit where you like on the coach, which is air conditioned and modern

4. Could you tell me how many tours of this type you have done before?  Are there testimonials we can read?  Is the same person in charge of each tour?

Colouricious has managed several hundred guests over the last five years – we tend to have the same guide but due to personal circumstances that may of course change.

5. The palace hotels look wonderful, but what type of accommodation is there for nights when we won’t be staying in palace hotels?

All the hotels that are on this tour are great standard and quality. Our guests always are thrilled with the good standard of accomodation and food.

6. How large is the group and are they all/mostly women?

The maximum size is 25 people and we mostly have woman although we do sometimes have the occasional male guest

7. Could you give me the names and email addresses of some people who have been on this tour before?  From the pictures they all looked delightful and I’d be eager to hear their personal comments.

We are not at liberty to  issue names and emails of previous guests but rest assured only lovely people seem to be attracted to Colouricious textile holidays!

From Katy … “Despite having always wished to visit India, nothing really prepared me for the wonderful experience of the Colouricious Orissan tribal textile tour. The tour exceeded my expectations in every possible way, India is a true assault on all senses, the scent, taste, sights and sounds were all more vivid than you could hope to imagine, it was a truly life changing adventure. We met some amazing and talented artists, were generously welcomed into homes and extremely privileged to experience tribal crafts in a fantastic landscape and in circumstances that few Westerners will ever experience.”

From AnneYour zest for everythng is infectious and inspirational … thank you for putting up with us all …

From Janet … You did an absolutely magnificent job in planning our holiday, and also executing it – everything went like clockwork, and I felt we had been cosseted but given opportunities never granted to ordinary tourists – I think the day at  Bagru stands out in my mind – perhaps because it was the first day and so so exciting – you started so well and it just continued the same for the whole week.  A fantastic mixture of organised activities and free time when we could indulge in retail therapy in whatever area we wanted to.  Definitely the holiday of a lifetime.  Thank you so much.making-books-embroidery-kantha-stitch

From Heather, Jaipur Trip 2013 “The highlights of the trip for me were the Bagru block printing workshop and the elephant ride – both had me feeling very emotional. Infact, the whole trip did – it exceeded all my hopes and expectations. The organisation was just fantastic and it was so special to be at the true heart of the textile industry in Jaipur. So much colour, vibrancy, inspiration, fun and truly life-enriching experiences. To anyone who goes to Jaipur – don’t miss the Observatory, a wonderful surprise. I even got to drive a tuk-tuk – scary but exhilarating!   I will always be grateful to Jamie for making my dream of a textile trip to India  come true.”

One happy husband – Peter

” Dear Jamie, I should just like to thank you for making Lesleys’ trip to Jaipur so memorable. She was a little nervous before she set off, going that far away from home, but your arrangements and organisation were excellent.  I understand that the itinerary was varied and very enjoyable and she just loved the Tuk-Tuk experience when traveling around.  Coming home with so much fabric and unique printing stamps etc, took a long time to unpack, with a full explanation of each given to me as it came out of her case! I just know that she will want to repeat the trip someday!  With many thanks again “

“My trip to India was all and more than I hoped; it is hard to identify what made it so but certainly your warmth and acceptance of people’s interests contributed greatly to the general atmosphere on the tour. It was wonderful to ooh and aah over textiles with like minded people.  I came back knowing that I need to meet with people with similar interests …Thank you for encouraging me to travel with you … and making it a truly amazing trip- I am still having image flash backs. Thank you.” Lee in Devon

Colouricious Textile Holidays in India

so much to see and do – back to back fun!

Colouricious Textile Holidays – love textiles, love India, love holidays – come with us!

Colouricious Textile Holidays are perfect for you if you just love stitch, embroidery, block printing, quilting and textile art. We specialise in really unique holidays that go off the normal tourist route and onto the off the beaten track. We love to explore rural villages, traditional textile techniques which honour the ethnic culture of each country that we visit. Always looking out for colour, culture, patterns and people, you will discover India presents a feast for the senses.  On our textile trips, we really want to find the real event with the real people by taking you places that you did not even know existed.  Some of our textile holidays are aimed at those who like a little more comfort – such as in Jaipur, we stay for the whole holiday in one hotel and take little day trips out from that one base. However, some of our textile trips are more intrepid – we have our own coach which travels around a specific area – such as the embroidery holidays – moving onto the next attraction each day. Whatever you love to do and see, you will be delighted at our magnificent little daily adventures together. So if you need a holiday that is for you, featuring visits to what you love, then our Colouricious Textile Holidays are designed for you! Come, enjoy and make new friends too. With a friend, a partner, a family member, or by yourself – we are all together having the time of our lives.

colouricious-textile-holidaysSome of these holidays are hosted by Jamie Malden, who specialises in block printing – so there is a heavy bias on finding some wonderful block printing factory in some remote area somewhere that nobody has ever found before! We love to share our enthusiasm with our guests to find something different, unique and most of all, authentic. That is quite a challenge these days, but not impossible ! We work with a team of travel specialists in India. Our account managers are Nilesh and Isha who do all the on ground research to satisfy our requirements and organise the itinerary that we request. Great team work !

Have a look at the list of different destinations, on the left hand column, to see which trip you really fancy. Check out the videos to see and hear about previous trips and then go ahead and book your dream holiday. Need any more help? Then just email us with your questions, or phone us to speak to Jamie Malden personally.

We are not medically qualified and not in a position to give medical advice. However, we can give you our opinion.
That unless there is a major  national weather catastrophe we will have access to clean drinking & washing water throughout our tour. Bottled water is provided as part of your trip and is available from our coach. We will not be trekking in the jungle or playing with any animals wild or domestic – so rabies is not really an issue. According to the NHS we have more chance of wining the National Lottery than being infected with Japanese encephalitis. However there is currently no cure for this infection. We personally do not routinely have vaccinations for cholera, rabies and Japanese encephalitis. Whilst there are other ways to be infected, the most likely way that one may be infected with Hep B is through a contaminated blood product should you require a transfusion following illness or injury.  Again this is most unlikely but as in the UK errors can occur in the blood screening process.   We are regular travellers and are vaccinated for Hep B. Read the informative guidelines from the NHS

Hotel Accomodationthe-fabric-of-India

we generally stay in proprietor run hotels, to support small businesses. However, in cities, we prefer the big corporate style hotels. Rest assured they are all of a good standard, clean, hot water and very often wi-fi.

There are a number of options for  you to consider …

1) Private room – book a room for yourself – ideal for those who need a little downtime to recharge their batteries.

2) Twin Room –  to share with a friend or team up with a new buddie. You are very welcome to book a twin room and share with someone else – sharing a room very common on our Colouricious Textile Holidays. Very often real new friendships have been made whilst sharing a twin room.

3) Double Room – double bed for couples

4) Book any holiday as an independent traveller. That means you make your own flight arrangements and meet up with us at our first hotel. That way you can extend the holiday before or after joining in the Colouricious Textile Holiday.

Just let us know what you would like to do and we will do our best to make this a wonderful trip for you.

Payment Terms

Once you submit a booking form, you will be sent automatically, details of payment. Your holiday is confirmed once the deposit is paid. We prefer cheques or online payment (details of which you will be sent). Alternatively we do accept credit cards

If you prefer, you can choose to make your own way to India and meet us there. You book your own flight and you simply pay for the rest of the holiday. All the details appear when you go to our online booking form and you select the No Flight option. See you there!

Business Class – if you prefer to upgrade your travel arrangements to business or first class travel, please us and we will let you know the price difference.

Airport Transfer
Our Delhi office is happy to arrange for independent travellers  to be met at the airport – and delivered to the airport at the end of your holiday. Two way transfer by an air-conditioned chauffer driven car, together with service of an English speaking representative will be for £54 for two persons. The price remains the same for a single traveller. If you would like to use this service, please send us your flight details – and send payment via paypal, internet banking or cheque to Colouricious.

Many of the flights and flight-inclusive holidays on this website are financially protected by the ATOL scheme. But ATOL protection does not apply to all holiday and travel services listed on this website.

Please ask us to confirm what protection may apply to your booking. If you do not receive an ATOL Certificate then the booking will not be ATOL protected. If you do receive an ATOL Certificate but all the parts of your trip are not listed on it, those parts will not be ATOL protected. Please see our booking conditions for information, or for more information about financial protection and the ATOL Certificate go to:

Organise your own group;

Just choose from our selection of textile holidays and the dates you want to go and we will organise the whole package for you. Email us with you special request booking!  We recently have an enquiry from a lady in Spain to ask if we had a Spanish speaking tour guide? We replied: To book a Spanish guide, we would need enough time in advance, as the numbers for these are very limited. If you can get together a group of 10 or more Spanish ladies, we can organise a trip just for you!

We would love to share India with you!
