Have you ever used Solufleece?

Solufleece – Something new to try

Have you ever used solufleece?

Solufleece is a water soluble stabiliser for machine embroidery. It handles heavy/high density stitching very well.
Simply treat Solufleece like a normal fabric while sewing & embroidering (layer against the fabric you wish to stabilise.
Once the stitching is complete submerge in water and the solufleece will disolve away to leave the stitching you have done. It is cold water soluble – leaves no residue.
We have an excellent video on our website of Kim Thittichai using Solufleece whilst doing some free machine embroidery. To watch the video you can either click on the video image below or click this link.

Christmas Gifts

Christmas Gift Vouchers

The weather is turning a bit colder and the nights are drawing in. That can only mean one thing… Christmas is just around the corner!

For us crafters the need to be organised in the lead up to Christmas is even greater as there is lots to do and to make. With that in mind Colouricious have come up with the perfect gift for all your crafting friends. If you are not sure which block or DVD to buy people for Christmas, then why not just get them a Colouricious Gift Voucher. the vouchers are valid for any product for sale on the website. You purchase them like a normal product and in return you will receive a pdf file that you can print out and fold up to make an attract card. The voucher has a unique code on it that the recipient just has to add to the checkout process and they will see the amount of the voucher be deducted from their total spend. It is a lovely gift to give your crafting friends.

If you would like to purchase some gift vouchers ready for Christmas, you can find them here.

Colouricious Gift Voucher

Come on a Textile Treasure Hunt

rubber-stamping-roller-stamp

We have had several people respond to our recent newsletters about our holidays to Jaipur, Rajasthan and Kerala in the next few months. In addition, a number of people have also reserved their places on our Textile Treasure Hunt across North India in March next year as well. So much so that as I am typing this newsletter there is only 5 spaces left on the trip before it is full.

Our trip across Northern India promises to be hugely exciting as we visit Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow and Agra to name just a few places. The trip will include a mixture of visiting villages to see local crafters in action as well as time to visit some of the wonderful and famous sights of India including to world famous Taj Mahal at Agra which I can assure you is everything you expect it to be and more.

If you want to grab one of the remaining 5 places on this trip then I urge you to get onto our website and fill in the booking form to reserve your place. I am confident that the trip will be full long before we actually leave in March, so if you don’t want to be disappointed, I recommend you reserve your place now.

I look forward to seeing you on the treasure hunt.

Next Quilt Show

We have a number of people coming with us who are sure to have a great time; after all crafting and shopping is just about the perfect mix isn’t it?

We will be taking loads of photos and hopefully a few videos too, so look out for those on our website and YouTube channel. We will report back on how it all went in a future newsletter.

Use Transfer Foils in your next project

Transfer Foils can bring something new.

Transfer Foils

Transfer Foils can bring a metallic or holographic pattern to your crafting projects when you use them. They can be used to accent and highlight your existing design and really make it unique.

One of my favourite colleagues is Kim Thittichai – she is excellent in her use of transfer foils and you can watch a very fab video here where she uses the transfer foils to make a beautiful t-shirt. The transfer foil works perfectly with a sheet of hot spots to get the foil securely transferred on to the fabric.

It is a really lovely way to adorn and embellish your textile crafting projects and it makes them stand out from the crowd.

Colouricious Holidays

v&a-museum-Indian-Fabric

This is a really busy time for our Colouricious Holidays as the climate in India is perfect for us to visit and see all the wonderful sights of this magical country. The prime season for us runs from October through to about April and we have several excellent trips packed into these months.

2016 is going to be extra special for Colouricious in terms of the trips and tours that we run as we are expanding the number of destinations substantially. I have recently spent a week in Delhi with our partners carefully choosing the very best destinations for us to offer and we have come up with several new locations in India as well as visiting Sri Lanka for the very first time which s hugely exciting.

Each holiday has been chosen with the specific requirements of the followers of Colouricious, so will include trips to villages to see how families make and use crafting techniques that have been handed down through the generations. You will also get to try some of the techniques for yourself as well if you want.

I am very excited about what 2016 has in store for us, so if you would like to join me on any of these lovely trips then visit our website, choose the trip you want to go on and reserve your place.

V&A Exhibition The Fabric of India

V&A Exhibition The Fabric of India

colouricious-Indian-fabric-India

V&A Exhibition The Fabric of India – This exhibition at the V&A Museum in London is one of the most exhibitions to visit, in our opinion. Visit this exhibition to learn about the heritage and culture of Indian textiles, in what The Times newspaper refers to as dazzling craftsmanship. What is really magnificent is Tipu Sultan’s tent which is the largest item in the exhibition. Not sure about the 19th century dress embellished with beetle wings. During the last Colouricious block printing holiday to Jaipur, we did actually see a local craftsman processing these beetle wings. So that textile technique still goes on. Many of the 10,000 items have been part of the collection made by the East India Company that was created in the 18th century. As you travel through the exhibition,  you will learn about raw materials, from silks, cotton, wool, goat hair, and move onto natural dyeing techniques from Indigo to pomegranate, block printing and weaving. The most exciting aspect of this exhibition is that so many of these techniques have been witnessed by guests attending our Colouricious Textile Holidays. So please do go and visit this exhibition to start your journey of discovery for Indian textiles.
